The Republic gunship became an instant fan favorite upon its surprise debut during the climax of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and subsequent appearances in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and now, fans have brought it back. Until a swarm of Republic gunships show up, that is, filled with clone troopers, laying waste to countless battle droids, and even giving Yoda a ride. There is little hope for the guardians of peace and justice. The secret Sith Lord Count Dooku watches from above, demanding surrender. Designers Jens Kronvold Frederiksen and Hans Burkhard Schlömer of the LEGO Group tell how they reinvented a classic.īattle droids surround vastly outnumbered Jedi in the Geonosis arena. I’m also nearly finished with some Republic Starfighters, just a few kinks left to work out.The heavy-hitting prequel-era craft will join the vaunted LEGO Ultimate Collector Series with a massive, stunning new set. The Vulture Droid was nice and simple, I’ve also done a version in blues and greys which I’ll combine with some Seperatist Starfighters in the near future. Last year I settled on a couple of 1x2 curved slopes with notches on the sides of the N1, in yellow, and thanks to the Speed Champions Audi Quattro they’re now real! Not the cheapest but hopefully more end up on BrickLink to bring the cost down. I’ve had these Naboo N1 and Vulture Droid Starfighters finished for some time, just a couple of pieces that didn’t exist held held me back! I’m fairly happy with it now, the overall shape seems to work and despite a few one-stud connections the wings are strong enough. This little Gunship has been in the works for a long time, the front end has given me so much trouble that I’ve been avoiding tackling it. Since this seems to be the year of the clones I thought it was time to jump down my to-do list to some prequel ships, so here are my micro Republic Gunship, Naboo N1 and Vulture Droid!Īs before I’ve put instructions up on Rebrickable: Micro Blockade Runners: Tantive IV and Liberator - April 2021 Micro Zeta-Class Cargo Shuttle "Rogue One" - February 2021 Micro Imperial Sentinal Landing Craft - February 2021 Micro Resistance Bomber and Blue Leader - February 2021 Micro Nubian Royal Starship and Sith Infiltrator - February 2021 Micro Solo Millennium Falcon - January 2021 Micro Battle on Takodana, including Kylo Ren's Upsilon Shuttle - January 2021 Micro First Order TIE Fighters - January 2021 Micro Mos Eisley Cantina, an A5 sized version of set 75290 - November 2020 Micro Star Wars Rebels, unique and recoloured starfighters from the show - August 2020 Micro TIE Reaper & Striker (Rogue One) - August 2020 Follow the link to see renders of the whole set. All the instructions are on my Rebrickable page and there are photos and Studio renders some photos of the ships in this post, plus a few more on Flickr and Instagram. I’ve put together instructions for the Tantive IV as well as the Liberator from Star Wars Rebels, which I couldn’t resist building for myself. My Blockade Runner (April 2021) is the last ship on my micro Star Wars to-do list, although it’s hardly micro! The size and weight were a new challenge for me, I’ve never had to worry about a moc falling apart under its own weight before, but I enjoyed the challenge and managed to make it pretty easy to pick strong. Luckily trans-black 1x1 slope pieces work as fighter cockpits at the same scale so all the ships are, and will continue to be, as close to scale with each other as I can manage, at least based on these pieces and whatever reference images I can gather from Google. Since this all started with that Falcon Microfighter the cockpit piece (a light blueish-grey 2x2 truncated cone) became my yardstick for scale. Instructions for all these little builds are on my Rebrickable page. To begin with all I wanted to do was add detail to the Microfighter but I kept tinkering and before I knew it I had a growing collection of micro Star Wars freighters and fighters, and here they are! Micro Star Wars Starship CollectionĪ long, long time ago I started working on a micro scale Millennium Falcon.
